Default 1971 Tire Sizes

Hello,

I am still trying to understand Tires sizes and trying to get feedback if I can run P255 60/15 in the front for 1971. Can some people please help me.

Thank you

I know that 245 60 15 BFG Radial TA's fit fine on my 72. I always thought the 255's looked a little big on our year cars. Not sure about how they would fit, I seem to remember stories about them rubbing on the front during turns.

There have been plenty of threads on this if you do a search. The short version is that 255 60/15 will rub on some and not on others. I prefer 245 60/15 all around on mine.

I think you were also wanting to know how the sizes are determined?

The 255 is the width of the tread in mm's

The 60 is the ratio of the side wall heigth to the width , or 60% of the width.

a 255 / 60 - 15 is

255 millimeters wide

153 millimeters side wall heigth

and the last # is rim size.

I have seen 235 on the fron of cars , but depending on how low or high the front sits it may or may no rub when turning

You almost need to find a buddy with thhat size tire and ask if you can install them as a test.
