I need to replace the door panels on my 75 and I am considering buying door panels without the trim attached rather than buy them with all trim attached since my trim is in good shape (and I'm cheap!). I have deluxe panels, meaning they have carpet strips at bottom. I understand from a previous post that to install the long U channel located aft of the door handle requires poking of some holes in the new panel to route the attach pins through and then just simply bend the pins over after install on the new panel. However, the trim around the door handle and lock ****, located just forward of the U channel, appear to be riveted onto my old panel. How do I remove this piece from the old panel for install on the new one? Any other tips on transferring these trim pieces?
Re: 75 door panel replacement questions (Bobbyg75)
It is my understanding that those forward rivited pieces can't be reused. If you buy replacements, they are made to be screwed in from the back side. On my 72 someone had tried to reuse the originals, ground off the rivet heads and then held them in place in the new door panel with clear silicone. I wouldn't recommend this, mine eventually came loose. I replaced them with the ones that could be screwed in.

Did you contact Gary Gruhala? He has great prices on interior bits, and I'm sure you'll find it's going to be eaiser/better in the long run to just get the complete doors...

Bob-
I don't have the delux panels, but you should be able to improvise some fastening method after grinding rivets off.
Be ready to drill some holes in the new panels. Most don't come with prepunched holes for trim. With a good eye, a little patience and some savy, the trim pieces will fit fine. Good Luck -Rod :chevy

If you've already got the pieces you need, you can figure out a way of attaching them. Visit your local auto parts or paint store and ask the people there if they have any fasteners. You'll be amazed at how many different ways there are to join things. It's mind boggling....!!!
Re: 75 door panel replacement questions (Bobbyg75)
Also....there are ways to repair your door panels, unless they are totally thrashed. You can patch holes, regrain the area and use a Krylon paint and you would never know anything was ever wrong. It just depends on how bad your original panels are.

Ok, not sure if yours looks like mine did, but mine looked riveted, with washers underneath.. using a small screwdriver I looked at which area of the rivet head had the least overlap on the washer, and pried the washer up from that side. When I went to put them on, I did the same in reverse, slid the washers over the part that had the bigger overlap, and forced them down on the other side. I think if I pull the panels again, I may use the dremel to drill a hole thru the shaft from the plate, and just put a cotter pin thru it...
