Muncie shifter mounting hole question

Default Muncie shifter mounting hole question
Hello, The top shifter mounting boss on my 1973 m20 was broken off and has been replaced with a blank welded replacement. I need to drill and tap a new hole for the hurst shifter mounting plate. I am going to bolt the shifter plate to the two bottom holes and use the top hole to locate the drill. My problem is that one of the lower holes is slotted. Should the bolt in this hole be towards the top or bottom of the slot?

Save yourself a headache, just replace the tailhousing with a good used one.

It'll probably be different for every car. Hence the slots.
