Default Low profile single plane intake BB

I know there are lots of posts on this, but I have not found a definitive answer.
With a stock BB hood (1969) is there a low profile single plane, new or old design that will fit with dropped base air filterand no choke horn holley carb (HP series) ?
All help appreciated

Richie

The Edelbrock Torker II will fit under the hood, although their own techs advised me that it would likely suffer an off idle stumble that would be difficult to eliminate. What are you looking to accomplish?

Hi, I would like to turn the engine to 7000rpm, most dual plane manifolds seem to run out way before that. I have sceen some older style single plane manifolds that look like they would clear the hood with the correct filter base....
I would like to stay with the factory BB hood if possible

cheers

The Torker II is the only single plane intake that I know of that'll fit under that hood. I grabbed this info from their own website and you'll see that it's rated between 2500-6500 RPMs. The fact that they only describe throttle response as "adequate" tells a story. Still, it may be your best option by default.

TORKER II® MANIFOLDS (2500 to 6500 rpm)
These single-plane, low-rise intakes work well for high-rpm, high-performance street applications. Ideal for applications where hood clearance is limited, they produce gains in top-end horsepower with adequate throttle response. Not intended for mileage or emissions applications, they are only for high-performance vehicles.

Yes, "adequate" does sound concerning from a manufactures sales info!
I was wondering if i could manipulate a victor jrn, say mill and re tap the carb mount, and use a dropped base filter, or devise a custom.
Interesting to know how much clearance above a Holley there is with a torker 11 intake..... or if there is anywhere that has measurements of various intakes?
I had a victor Jr on a SB under a stock SB 1970 hood, with 750 D/P, all the experts told me it wouldn't fit and it would be a pig to drive. Well it fitted and drove like it had another HP everywhere over the stock HP manifold and Q jet.

If you can find one, an old Holley Street Dominator will fit.

Why not get an Eddy RPM from Dr. J's thats ported? Unless that will not fit either. You may find your cam is holding you back too after the intake swap..... You could always mill the torker a little to squeeze it in.

Before I went to the LS6 dual plane I had the torker 2. I experiences no noticeable stumble on acceleration that couldnt be tuned out. A few changes to the pump nozzle and no issues. The only reason I went to the dual plane is because I dont run my car that high so to match the new cam I needed a different style intake.

Thanks for the info, looking at running a L88 spec cam so needs to rev to high 6's, as only 427cu

What's the listed RPM range on those?

The RPM won't fit. The Torker II will fit w/o milling.

I've always been curious- how would you compare those two intakes in performance throughout the RPM range?

The official RPM range (if I remember correctly) was idle to 5500.
It will easily pull higher than that though.

I have a Torker II w/ a 4160 Holley and it barely fits under a stock BB hood. I have to use a bolt to hold down the air cleaner to clear the hood. I tried a threaded stud and wingnut and ended up with a nice looking spider crack in the paint on the outside. It runs out of juice pretty quick, 4500 RPM it just gives up.

I've been running a milled Dr'Js Torker II large oval port manifold to 6300rpms. Its on a stroked BBC (505ci) One of these days I'll try a rectangle port Dr. J's Torker II on it (with some good rectangle port heads) with a big solid roller looking for 6600 plus RPM. In a 427 it should get ya pretty darn close to 7 grand with an L88 cam.

Something is wrong, a Torker II will come on real hard at 5500 and keep pulling.

If money was not a consideration, one of thoses kinsler cross ram manifolds converted to EFI would be cool, and looks like they would fit too

I never did get a chance to really tell the difference. The Torker was removed from a basic stock engine and sold for the dual plane and two weeks later I dropped a valve and ended up with a whole new engine. I would be interested in seeing how the torker would have performed on the new 454HO that I ended up putting in.

Default Low Rise Intake

If you have access to a factory lowrise intake, (3963569) Why not cut all or part of the divider out ?

Because the engine runs well now and thats a lot of work for a few extra horses at an rpm range that I will never see.
