Default Front Brake Cooling...

This is an often discussed problem. I'd like to share my solution. This is on a 69. I used some old backing plates. The ducts are fabbed from light steel sheet and rigged to sit just below the chin spoiler.

I hope it gives other members some ideas to work with.

Default 100 kph!!!!!

J. Y.

You must be doing something illegal to be needing brake cooling on a C3, we're only allowed to go 100 kph there, and at that speed, the brakes will never get hot enough to need the ducts .

Nice design though, and cheap and simple, just the way I like my wome...... er, projects

I had a drive of a 710 hp 2010 Callaway today... WOW

Now, THAT car needs some brakes after you put the right foot down. Fortunately, it has them. In spades.

Default ....track day at Wakefield

Aussiejohn,

Got a track day coming up at Wakefield on November 13, we'll be doing a tad over 100kph

I've used the ducts before, they really do help but this time I've removed the backing plates and fabricated some plumbing to guide the cool air into the disc center.

What size hose is that? I'll be putting in some brake ducts as well this winter

the correct way to cool your brakes is to duct air to the center of the rotor not the face....

It's 2 inch hose....like used in engine bays for feeding warm air off the exhaust to the air cleaner.

Hi redvetracer, I went to a lot of trouble to make sure the air is directed into the center of the rotor. In the third photo, you can just make out the deflector riveted to the other side of the backing plate to guide the air into the center. It's light gray aluminum sheet.

As my power level went up I could only do a couple of hot laps before I would boil over my 600 degree Motul brake fluid. So I looked at all the options and went with Wilwood Therm Loc calipers and 13 inch with air ducting also.

If you have to comply with stock type rules the Corvette J-56 calipers with titanium thermal piston barriers are the best option.

Gkull- Is that 3" duct on your car? Is black generally 300* rated? Do you have any more pictures of this setup? Specifically the inlets and what you did to route air to the rotor.

I don't know what it is rated to. It is flame proof 3 inch. I used these aluminum spindle ducts modded a little to blow air to the center
