Hi guys and gals.
I am looking at adding a CD ignition box to my BB. I'll probably go with Bosch 4 electrode plugs as well. Looking for advice and experience.
Using a CD ignition seems to be a real car by car thing as far as how much it makes a difference. I have a '69 427/435 and added an MSD 6A CD box and noticed slightly better starting but that's about it. If there's any difference other than that, I don't feel it from my "seat of the pants" dyno. No difference in perceived power, no difference in mpg (lousy mpg is still lousy mpg). Of course...the engine has so much torque anyway it would take a huge difference in power to be felt.
As far as spark plugs...I think you're wasting your money on exotic plugs. Stock heat range and design is all you need. Your car didn't require exotic plugs when built, and unless you've done some serious modifications to the engine, you don't need exotics now.
Maybe you'll notice a bigger difference than I did. Your money...your choice.
I'm running an MSD 6AL in one of my car's with a big cam, and most noticable is how much better it start's and idle's around town. Like "Roughrider" mentioned didn't notice much else. A few other thing's. If your car has a dash electrical system idiot light, make sure you install the diode as instructed, or the car may not turn off with the key. Also, if you're running a non MSD brand electric tach, you'll need to pop for the additional adapter module.
Thanks for the feedback. I am really thinking in terms of the idle and below 2000 rpm running. I am using the stock electric tach. Will that require an adapter from MSD?
