Default Factory big block intake mods?

Just wondering if any one has tried removing the center divider on the factory low rise intakes? And if so did you gain any thing doing this? I have done this on other engines with good results. And looks like the factory intake would be a good candidate for this. Should really increase the plenum volume. Thanks for any input!

You must be talking about the aluminum square bore intakes. Don't think it would work too well with a cast iron spreadbore intake. Both are low rise since they have to clear the same hood.

71 corvette factory cast iron oval port. The aluminum intake looks like the same intake. So should not mater which one. Just want to get a little better flow out of it till I change the hood to a L88 hood. And I kind of like the stock look. Back in the day this is something we used to do to the good old Mopar intakes. Really helped them out.

You may have to try this and let the rest of us know how it went.
As poorly shaped as the runners are on the low rise intakes,
I dont know if modding the plenum will help anything. It may only kill low rpm torque.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

All of the aluminum BB intakes I've seen have a large opeining at the base of the carburetor with a divider running lengthwise in the middle for a Holley carburetor.

The cast iron intakes on the other hand have four holes for the spreadbore Q-jet with 2 large holes in the rear and 2 smaller ones in the front.

Possibly the 427/390 intake is an aluminum spreadbore design I don't know but as far as I've seen all of the Corvette 454 intakes are as described in my first paragraph. Could the aluminum intake be from a different model such as a Chevelle, Camaro or Monte Carlo?

427 390hp is a spread bore. Identical intake as the cast iron 454. Had the carb off of a 69 427 and compared the two. Identical. Just the aluminum is one heck of a lot lighter! And about 8 X the $ unfortunately. Or I would use one of them. But when I only paid $35 for the 454 intake, I can live with the extra weight for a while.
