You should have 2 wires going to the socket (orange and white), the orange is hot 24-7,when the white wire is grounded the bulb comes on. The white can be grounded by 1 of the door switches or the headlight switch OR if a screw is run through it or its pinched. The white also runs to the rear compartment courtesy light.
