...got the new 2-1/2" midsection hangar bracket installed, no problem. Loosely fitted the passenger side down pipe, then tried to install the long pipe, but even if I get the pipe pretty much all the way in the down pipe fitting, it seems about 2" too long. In other words you can't turn the pipe to fit in the body contours under the car!?!?! It's just too dang long. Other side looks like it will have the same problem.
not sure if this will help, but its pretty close to finished in this pic. i had to add in some 2" spacers to get it to align on my car. i dont have a pic of it fully aligned with the tips in, but it fits the contours a bit better then in this pic.
Definitely call Allens. I've used their pipes for years and 99.5% of the time the pipes are dead nuts.
Take some pics and post them we might be able to see what the problem is.
I tried a set of Allen's 2 1/2" pipes too, one was cut too short, one cut too long and the bends didnt fit at the rear. It took a lot of work and some new pipe pieces to get them to fit.
sorry for my ignorance but whats so great about allens pipes? i am getting ready to replace my 77. thks
it basically gives you a real deep muscle car sound. at idle, these things are almost quiet. but put your foot down and it sounds like all hell is breaking loose.
ya, theyve got some problems. i had to get my front pipes replaced 2 times, they sent me the wrong sizes both times. the pipes were also too strong for the exhaust clamps they sent. i twisted the hell out of the clamps, and they started distorting, but the pipes wouldnt clamp down.
but, after i spent an afternoon with heavy duty guillotine style clamps, i had them fully aligned and locked down. id be willing to bet these pipes be around long after my car rots away.
I got mine few years ago at Carlisle from Allen's, I bought only the two chambered section for each side.

I just installed the Allen's Chambered I exhaust today. As Roger said, it was "Dead Nuts On"! I couldn't be happier with Allen's Fit. BTW, I bought the exhaust from Mid-America and it came from Allen's. Much cheaper to order from Mid-America.
Even with messing with the rusted manifold flange studs and going to the store for some replacements, 2+/- hours on a lift. If all goes well, 1 to 1 1/2 hours for removal and installation.
