Default Starting Engine.....how should this be?

My '81 has been hard to start when cold and I have been trying different settings of the choke setup....have yet to find one that I think is correct though.

So thought I would ask, how do other start-up their carb engines? Is it just one pump (set the choke, one pump spray)...turn the key, engine starts in 1- 3 seconds?

Or is it more like several pumps, turn the key and more pumps, or what?

i usually give it 2 pumps, turn over and give it a third while it's turning. Result is usually lift off

i pump my 72 like 7-8 times and then turn the key... but I think i need some fine tuning and adjusting of the carb.

Typically, I turn the key to the acc. position, pump the pedal 2-3 times and wait 5 seconds. Turn it over and the choke has engaged and it idles high.

I run a 750 dominator carb with no choke. I depress my gas pedal just a slight bit it fires right up every time. Crank your motor and when it don't kick, turn off, pull a plug and see if its wet. If it is then its may be getting too much. Check float adjustments, google on how to?? Check plug condition, may need change, old, foul... May just need a good tune up. Good luck

I have made sure that the fuel bowl is not draining back. I get three and a partical pump shot after setting for a week.

After I flooded it in the morning, came back 10 hours later, made a choke adjustment and two small pump shots while making the adjustment, the engine fired right up.

Will have to check again after sitting, cooling down and see how it starts.

Plugs are good. Float level has been checked several times. I may have the choke set right this time. I have used Lars's instructions for doing this.
