Re: Hot Rodders and Computer Hackers (robzr)
Sweet. I was heading down this route with my Daily Driver, but concidering the vette has almost no electronics in it, it kinda puts a squash on it.
I like the idea of being able to tweek the car with a laptop. Modifying software is just so much easer to do. Plus it is way better to crash the computer testing it then wrap your car around a poll cause you go a few numbers off . I am still on the lookout for stuff that I could use to monitor the vette. Even if I can't make any changes, it would be really sweet to be able to see what it is doing. But that is just me. Maybe I am a bit to much of a geek.
Wouldn't a 802.11 (Wireless Network) enabled, MP3 (or Ogg, what ever your music format preference) Music playing, STOCK looking vette be sweet. I think it would. :yesnod: :yesnod:
Cool article.... the C5's have 'e-proms' which control fuel, timing, etc....you can program these but it requires a Hypertech programmer.
However, we need to remember that there's no sustitute for CUBIC INCHES... :chevy
IF Detroit continues to build small engine cars then no matter what you program - you'll eventually hit a 'limit' where it can produce any more power. :bb
I guess the best news is that you can have a 'disc' for the track & a 'disc' for the street.
Yes, I think "high tech" EFI + Turbo is the thing to watch - but not in a 2 liter *** car, but more along the lines of Monty's beast. Low RPM, highly tunable, moderate camshaft will help with the gas mileage. All in all very streetable, relatively cheap since you can keep the RPMs down, and some insane power!
