This electrical part came out of the engine bay of my 77 L48 350. It was up just sitting loose up near the firewall in the middle of the compartment. It was about half an arm length down from the topside of the engine. Any ideas??? If anyone knows, can you tell me the part name and/or what system it goes to?
If it is not stock it might be some type of noise suppressor for radio interference. BTW Anyone know of one that works? I have tried the alternator ones and one by MSD but neither did squat.
Looks like either a RFI (Radio Frequency Interference) Filter or a ground strap. Check and see if the block part opens up. It may just be holding the two wires together. If it is, then it is probably a ground strap.
Fevre, I had added a small amp to our '73 and the howling was bad enough that I disconnected the amp. The filter that worked best for me was one that I found in the car stereo department at Circuit City. It cost about $20 and is connected with RCA jacks. It does not need any power connected to it. It just splices into the line before the amp and cut the noise by about 95%. Hope this is something like what you are looking for.
Well personally I have never seen one of these before, but my compadres here at work (which incidently happen to be experts on infomercials of late night TV) have your answer. This my friend is your modern day "snake oil". It has claims to great power and gas milage increases by intensifying the spark potential at the distributor. This has actually been demonstared at the local swap meet and both of them fell for it. The funny part of it is they actually got a package deal on 2 of them. I type this with them both smurking in the back ground. They could neither confirm or deny the performance gains. For info one was installed on a 84 CJ7 Jeep and the other was installed on a 81 Vette. They both have made the offer to donate theirs free of charge if you need another one for.....lets say your lawn mower. I'm sure your going to be disapointed with the lack of power your C3 will now have with this vital performance link missing. Just goes to show Barnum was right!!!
