Default 79' Automatic Transmission lines

Can anyone tell me if the automatic transmisstion lines on the 79 vet are spliced from the factory or is that evidence of a problem a previouis owner has had? Thank You

No, they were not spliced from the factory...Line probably rusted out and they made a repair there where you see the splice. Classic Tube has original type pre-bent lines with correct fittings at both ends for like $85 for the set, if you ever wish to change them. To re-iterate, come to think of it, the line that did go into the top of the radiator had about an 8in piece of rubber hose and the bottom one had like 4in on it. These are the only areas there should be "rubber" on these lines.

If a 1979 is the same as a 1980, they are NOT spliced....he probably had the same trouble putting his tranny lines back on after servicing or replacing the transmission(like I had). But if you persevere, you can barely tighten them back on....

I agree with Paul, only place there should be anything but solid metal trans lines is right at the radiator where two lengths of rubber hose attach the solid trans lines to the short lengths of pipe that go into the radiator.

If you decide to replace either of the lines, I recommend you put the car up on jacks and 'thread' the new lines from just forward of the right lower control arm back to the trans. A bit easier to 'navigate' than to send from trans-forward in my experience (I installed a 700R4 and had to get the '82 trans lines). Also, be sure to tape the ends of the lines shut when removing/installing as there is plenty of crud on the car's underside just waiting to get jammed into those trans lines (and make its way into your transmission). :seeya

Just put on hold for now. Got cold feet after having the house on the market for 3 months (we decided we like Florida too much to completely leave). Depending on finances, I'll probably try to stay with my Dad June-July this year and then get a 2nd, modest home up that way near him or my mother in 2003.
