Default New exhaust installed - finally!

Here it is - not too bad. Corvette Central 2.5" system with Magnaflow mufflers. Lined up ok, left muffler has a little twist in it that I don;t like, but this is about as good as it gets. Was easy to install - 40 minutes a side. You can install this system wearing Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes - painfully EASY. Adjusting it took about an hour and a half though. I used new rear hangars from Paragon since the old ones were shot and unequal length. I have not torqued the clamps with my air gun yet - just firm hand pressure with a 3/8" drive ratchet. I had to provide my own clamps for the rear mufflers against the hangar flanges and I used 2-1/8" clamps upside down.

This was an easy system to install. Two of my most important tools to do it:

Large mouth Vise Grips - allowed me to easily twist the main pipes while running a touch of clamping pressure on the center clamps - very nice tool. I originally got it to hold shock absorbers while installing the installation nuts 10 years ago.

1-1/2 ton aluminum jack - allowed me to hold the pipes in place while lining up, installing, etc. I have a couple small pieces of 2 X 4 so I don't have to raise the jack pad so much. This cheap jack is easy to manage with one hand, against a leg, jack the tranny when I installed the 2-1/2" center hangar, etc. Indispensable. Not sure I'd jack up a car though with it

Also used big pieces of cardboard to lie down on when moving around under the car. Forgot to mention that the car is jacked up on all four corners and resting on HD jack stands. One of the photos shows where the jacks are placed in order to allow you to get around where you need to without contorting yourself around a stand.
Can't wait to fire it up - my T/T column is being rebuilt

Yes - 4 car garage - but only one large door - weird But it also has a little 1/2 Ton chain hoist on a rail that you can barely see above and to the left of the drivers door!

I added some photos from under the car. Still have more wrap to do on the one pipe and I will wrap the other downpipe with header wrap later. Will then clamp the wrap in place with large hose clamps.

Nice job, can't wait to here it. Did you take any pictures of the system before you install it?

Here was my Magnaflow install

Of the old system? No, no reason to I don't think. Nice job installing yours - my car is practically all stock, so it went right in without any finnagling around.

I don't really see the little twist in the photos, must be minor, don't lose sleep over it, you're probably the only one that notices. Nice color , whats it called and what is the paint code if you don't mind me asking?

Looks like you replaced the exhaust manifold studs with SS. That is normally a real pain. How did you make out?

It is DuPont ChromaBase BC 5564K, Bright Blue, Code 22, 73 - 74 Corvette. It was painted this color by the previous owner.

Before installing the new exhaust, I actually replaced the exhaust manifolds with non-AIR manifolds and I had the new (used) manifolds bead blasted at the local machine shop. They also installed new studs, but I don;t think they are SS.

I probably spent 30 minutes trying to get that twist out, but it always resulted in a weird pipe angle under the axle. I think the only way to get it out is to move the hangar but it is already adjusted all the way in the direction I want to move it and it is twisted about as much as I dare to as well. Nobody will notice it but me on the road tho I DO like the way the pipes are gently schmushed under the axle to increase ground clearance. I think the factory pipes were also schmushed.

Nice job, Mine took a bit more then 40 minutes a side and no way I could of done it wearing Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes. I was filthy and sore when I finished. ( I hate working on the bare ground with a car on jack-stands) It would of been a hell of a lot easier having a helper. I think you will find that it is a good system, especially for the money.
