I can almost guarantee you that you have the TH350. Some books claim that 1975 was the last year of the TH400. Others claim that it was 1977. I have never seen a TH400 in anything newer than 1975. The drain pan is the dead giveaway. The TH350 is a rectangle with a corner cut out. The TH400 is more square and it has a portion that extends out of the middle of one side. Good luck.
A turbo 400 has a vacuum line running from manifold vacuum source to pass side of tranny pan round modulator....a 350 has a throttle cable from carb near accelerator linkage...to pass side top of casting flange....
the 400 also has an electric kickdown switch in the gas pedal system under the dash...switch actuates when pedal is near floored....
you need check the above OR look at the pan to see what you have...
at 20-30 years old none of these cars are/is original....even engines are restamped every day so it's all bullpoopie about originality....
In my 77 owners manual under tranmission capacities
350 10.0 qts
400 11.0 qts
4 sd 3.0 qts
That would indicate that there was both a 350 and a 400 in 77 and so far as I know the L48 had the 350 and the L82 had the 400.
