I took my horn and wheel off to get my dash pad off. When I was putting it back together I could not see what makes contact with the spring loaded horn signal. I looked through my AIM which has the diagram below.
I have items 2, 3, and 4 loaded in to the collar but it looks like it should be rubbing against some of the horn hardware at some point but does not. I know on my past GM vehicles there was a yellow wire with a spring and collar at one in and a plug on terminal at the other. If needed I can shoot some pics of my car tomorrow when the sun is out.
Part #7 (Upper Contact Assembly) should have a leg on the bottom side that should press on the spring loaded eyelet #3. Horn contact kits usually come with eyelets that are too long. You are expected to cut them to a length that allows them to contact the leg on the upper contact yet have a little allowance for the spring to keep it in contact.
Possibly someone in the past cut the eyelet too short?
Hi Guys, I just recently started having horn issues. Usual stuff horn sounding when turning and when I hit the odd bump. Over a few days it got really bad and my horn cap was really loose. I popped the cap off to have a look and found inside the eyelet (#3) and insulator (#4) just loose in the cavity. My question is do I have to take the steering wheel, extension and hub assembly all off to get it back in place ? It seems impossible to get it in place with just part #s 6-11 off.......
