Default What's the catch? Calipers from Ecklers...

I'd love to know what the difference between these 2 sets of calipers are? I found I have a leak from the seals of one of my calipers, so I figure why not change them all, if the price is right.

So what's the difference between these?

http://www.ecklers.com/corvette-brak...1965-1982.html

vs.

http://www.ecklers.com/corvette-brak...1965-1982.html

So there's a $100 difference..

What do you guys think? Also, it should just be a easy swap out with my '72's old calipers, right?

Thanks for the quick reply. I saw that, is that 'upgrade?' really worth an extra $100?

I'm no expert but the more expensive set have stainless steel sleeves and o-ring seals which can be rebuilt later on without worrying about the bores.Did you check Autozone as I got a pair there for about $6o a wheel with SS sleeves lifetime warranty with exchange

I haven't. I'll hit up Checkers tomorrow. Pretty certain we don't have AutoZone here in Hawaii. Thanks

Looks like I can get all 4 for $330 at Checkers! Better time than any to change the pads while I'm at it!

Thanks again! I'll be busy tomorrow

Is warranty lifetime? SS? I guess shipping to Hawaii is a little high huh?

with the O ring seals there is less of a chance of run out causing air to be pumped into the brake system. Unless you know your run out is perfect it would be worth the extra money to me.

If your lip seals leaked before, they'll leak again. Either rebuild your own calipers with an O ring kit (if they're S/S lined), or buy O ringed calipers.

If you're price sensitive we sell them for less and we include the pads. Let me know if I can help

Ah... actually that's for a pair...

By the way, Vansteel sells this set for $500 ...
http://www.vansteel.com/index.cfm?fu...p=1962&ID=3055

I bought a set for the front of my '63 and must say they look terrific and weight very little in comparison to the stock calipers.

Good luck... GUSTO

Buy them locally at a discount store as freight will eat up any savings if purchased from the mainland as the cores {old used calipers} will have to be shipped back and forth for credit.....and you dont need any fancy calipers as they will 'all leak sometime in the future as the fluid attracts moisture and the eventual rust happens to all of them wherever they come from.....

yes buy locally if you can, shipping will kill you.. shipping of the cores will kill you also..
and the little surprise they will hit you with is that your cores are not OK or some other surprise reason for not sending you back the full core charge will happen also...

always read the fine print regarding the core charge refund.. you will be surprised at what you find out.

buy locally if you can..

I think Checkers is the same as OReilly and they have ss calipers locally for around 85 bucks apiece.

Interesting because on the mainland, OReilly has them listed for around 64 bucks.

I guess your palm trees and sand are pricier than ours.

I would buy the calipers locally, use them until they start to leak (just a matter of time) or suck in too much air and become a safety issue, and then rebuild them with an O-ring kit. These days you would have to look pretty hard to find a rebuilt caliper that WASN'T stainless-steel lined.

So I bought all 4 calipers, with new brake pads locally from O'Reilly's yesterday. Installed them and bled all the brakes in accordance with the Haines manual I have. Left rear, right rear, left front, then right front. Everything seems good until the test drive. The brakes are still 'soggy' and the pedal goes all the way to the floor with minimal braking power.

I had fluid without air come out of every caliper. So in theory there shouldn't be any air in the system...

What's the issue!?

welcome to the world of corvette brakes. I put new, stainless-steel sleeved ones on my '71, and had to bleed them 4 times to get it right.
