Default 215 heads

my engine builder has a short block started by another customer but never picked-up. it's got hypereutectic domed pistons(+030), cast crank, 2 bolt mains, 215 heads(1970 date) with the 1.72 exhaust valves that he has rebuilt. as a street engine, what do you guys think about this as a starting point? it's never going to see a track, and i'm more interested in fun driving. my vert sb is fun, but my bb coupe really makes me smile!

IF it is a roller engine, fine, but times have taken over from the old flat tappet two piece rear main seal blocks....

so find a block from '88 up, trucks had them with 4 bolt mains....

that's what in my car for some 13 years now....

The heads are good.
They will pop the compression up with flat tops and are recommended for that use.
If it is what you want get it.
I have a set that I am working for mine.
Hope this helps.

The 215 heads can be very good heads....smallest combustion chamber of big block heads, makes for cheap easy compression. If you want to search for extensive info on these heads, check out www.chevelles.com Most notably, there used to be a user by the name of Racer1320 who utilized these heads on a sub 11 sec 68 Chevelle.

You never said how many cubes or what rods are being used in the short block, and what is the cost. I wouldnt go wild for the hyper pistons.

Unless the price is so fantastic, the pistons would probably make me shy away. If its anything smaller than a 454, I wouldnt even bother.

Not quite...the true closed chamber (702, etc.) are smaller at 98cc's, the 216, 290 and 063's are all semi-closed chamber at around 104 - 107cc's.

The pair on Ed's Chevelle were extensively ported...

I figured it would have been fairly obvious that a set of 215's on a 10.80 car werent stock, but yes, Ed's heads had alot of work done to them.
