Thanks guys, that's what I set them to. Sounds fine running. One of my friends has this 70 LT1. He just got it out of storage yesterday and needed a lesson in adjusting valves. It's green with saddle interior, all stock, no power steering, even has redline tires on it. Too stock for me, but it's a nice looking car. I wish I could say the same for the way it rode. My 73 has power steering & radials, what a difference. The 70 drove a lot like the 70 Torino Cobra (429CJ, close ratio 4spd, shaker scoop, 3.91 gear) that I had in the seventies. Yeah it's kinda like that :D .
To save a little trouble next time would set them a tight .026 intake-.032 exhaust while cold. Then use the firing order method by hand rotation with a marked harmonic balancer and get both intake and exhaust at the same time
Intake .024 exhaust .030 warm. seems loose but that is the specs
You sure called that one... Those are the specs and they are way too loose.
For what it's worth, my parts guy told me that GM recently discontinued the original LT-1 camshaft (#3972178).
This was a very interesting topic of discussion on the NCRS board a few months back. Certainly worth surfing over and checking the archives for what Duke Williams and John Hinckley had to say about this.
