Default Muncie Oil Capacity

Guys, I know that the rule of thumb is fill it till it's running out the hole, but I have my tranny out with the side cover off so I thought I'd fill it the easy way. Does anyone know how many pts of oil she takes? I found something in a Chilton's manual that says 3 pts but wanted to get a second opinion.

(1973 350 with a 32 spline Muncie 4 spd)

thanks

Jim

Thanks Gusto....

One other question. Behind the clutch fork there is a front cover over the base of the input shaft. Mine was leaking a bit.... Can I resolve that with some RTV or do I need to make/buy a gasket? I was on a Chevelle site where they were talking about using a gasket made from a rice crispies box (go figure but I guess it's about the same material as gasket material). Thought I'd see if you had an opinion.

thanks

Jim

Jim, I am somewhat out of my element here, as my expertise ends at servicing and R&Ring transmissions, clutch's etc. When it come to the nuances of the transmissions, I rely on the experts that deal with them every day.

I do recall the issue with the drain hole, but there is some useful discussion regarding leaking front bearings here.

Darrel comes to Carlisle every year and does quite a lot of business with Muncies, I wouldn't hesitate to give him a call and ask him for advice. He always has a crowd at his booth and appears very helpful.

I am guessing that you are referring to the front bearing retainer... the gasket is available.

Are there locking tabs on the retaining bolts? Those are available as well if you have to destroy them in the process.
