i am looking at maybe getting an L-88 hood with the fresh air chamber and the matching air cleaner for my 78' L-48 car and i'm wondering if someone here has done the conversion and whether the air cleaner with dual snorkels and the open top or some other kind of filter assembly might work. the car has a Holley intake manifold and a Holley 3310 vacuum secondary 750 cfm carb on it now. i'm not all that worried about the money spent on it because i'm only going to do this car once and it will be done properly with the best parts.
From: Who says "Nothing is impossible" ? I've been doing nothing for years.
If someone would make a high rise hood with a front vent that allowed cold air in when rolling and doesn't look like something from Corvette Summer I would buy one.
Sorry don't have an answer for you but will be watching this one
I did that a "Ram Air style cold iar set up on my car last year. Central scoop (carbon fiber) feeding cold air to 4 Dellorto's. The hood has a corresponding inlet. I do need better pictures...and I need to take photos of the hood (had to go to a full pin on hood..won't work with a front hinged version)

lverpool32...your car is just plane crazy awesome. One of the vettes I would definitley like to see in person. Something about your vette as it has a LOT of character that is different than most modified.
Somebody needs to make quality hood hinge mod that raises the entire hood such that not a single part of hte hood dips into the engine bay. this would solve a lot of issues with the CAI and other mods.

My brother in law did this on his 67 resto mod. It was quite a project. You would not notice it unless you were looking for it. He took a set of C5 hinges and modded the crap out of it. Very sleak design and it works so well it looks stock. He runs a LS7 in the car and wanted to use the air bridge for the air intake which required the hood to raise this way.
i've decided to go with the L-88 hood, the fresh air chamber for it and a full L-88 air cleaner assembly. i figure i'll likely have to run a spacer under the filter or maybe i'll go with a taller manifold. i'll see how it all fits together once i get the excklers hood and all the other stuff here. IS the Ecklers hood a decent part or am i going to have to do a load of fussing and fitting with it? my last experiences with glass hoods have been that none needed any work but i remember seeing on here someplace some fitting problems, i just dont remember if it was an Ecklers hood or not.
The L-88 hood is for big blocks; the only air cleaner arrangement which will work with it without modification is the L-88 set up. I'm not certain the big block L-88 set up would fit your small block.
If you want a functional L-88 set up, you want to shop for a conversion which will fit a small block.
