Default BB header question

I'm still waiting for the machine shop to take in my 454 that I am going to rebuild. In the mean time I am trying to price out some other things. As far as headers go, I am assuming that the BB headers are corvette specific. Is that correct? Where's the best place to shop for them. Going to go look at CL and ebay for a decent set used. Anything specific that I should look out for?

I have hookers super comp. ceramic coated for sale off my 69 BB, 2 1/8" primaries 3 1/2" collectors bought them couple years ago they are in very good shape and they fit pretty good .I'm also selling my complete custom dual exhaust 3 1/2"merging into 3" with magnaflow 3" mufflers with electric cutouts and cross pipe installed .It's made in two sections with welded flanges for easy installation will make a good deal if somebody interested. Check my other posts I should have some pictures posted.
Reason for sale I just switched to Hooker side pipes.
Also had Hedman headers 1 7/8 primaries 3" collectors I had to make dimple to clear the steering box but they were pretty snugged under the body and had good clearance underneath, I switched to hookers for a better flow with 2 1/8" primaries since my motor is 568 cid.

Yes, the headers will be Vette specific.
Since you mention looking for used headers, I assume that you are trying to keep costs down as much as possible.
There is really only one semi-low cost, under car header available for a big block C3.
That is the Hedman 2" primary/3" collector headers (part # 68090). They cost about $200.
They also sell that same set with coating if you want to spend a bit more.
The next step up pricewise will be Hooker headers. Anything made by Hooker starts in the $500 range.

Thanks that is exactly what I needed to find out. I have 3" exhaust right now. Now it's just a decision to go ahead with sidepipes or get headers for what I have now

I wish I had a 3" system. If your current 3" system was done right you'll have a hard time equaling its performance with sidepipes. Hedman headers are supposed to have more ground clearance than Hookers but I can't remember if that's for smallblocks, bigblocks, or both.

The Hedman big block headers do tuck up nice and tight.

These fit great:

You can probably get the uncoated version for less but I highly recommend the coating; it dramatically reduces underhood temps. Many purchase uncoated headers and have them sent off to be coated.

Good luck!

I got the uncoated hedmans for my 454. They fit perfectly and run about 180. Jet hot just quoted me 340 to coat them inside and out with their sterling silver 1700 degree coating.
You can buy them new from jet hot for about 500 already coated.
