Default Original Temp on 72 SB

I am gong to replace my thermostat but need to know what the original temp setting was in my 72 small block 4sp with A/C. Is it 160 or 180?

Thanks for all the information. This site is great!

looks like only the LT1 came stock with a 180, all others had 195 from the factory. Probably for emissions - I don't think you need to run a 195.

Think You're Right ! I Checked it out. Even in my Manual for My '72 [Auto, Air]. Sez 195 Thermo. But No 160 degree anywhere.

Got a question, how is the best way to get to the temperature sending unit on my '72 SB 350. I hope I dont need to remove the manifold.

Shouldn't have to remove the exhaust Manifold. Just have to use a deep reach socket, or an off-set boxed wrench. It's a little tricky, but not a real big problem. I also believe you can get it off from underneath, rather than leaning over the fender on top. Helps to have a hoist. Oh yeah, there are 2 sending units. One in each head.

I agree it is easier from underneath. Might need a rain hat.
