Default AC Help

I have an 81 that I am replacing all ac components. (134a)

Condencer, compressor, accumulator, evaporator and all lines. all are brand new. question is how much oil do I put into each component. and what will be the total amount of oil needed.
Tahnks in advance

Speak with the component manufacturer, as the compressor is normally pre-charged with the proper oil amount. If you do need more, it's normally charged into the running system suction line, not into each individual component.

when i replaced my entire system, new compressor, the ac shop gave me an 8oz bottle of oil (for 134a) and said to pour all of it directly into the compressor. been doing fine, that was summer of 09.

What compressor do you have? is it a R4? The kit I bought gave me 8oz of oil but no indication of how much to use and where to put it in.

Once again, I'd check with the kit manufacturer, as the compressor may already have some oil in it. If the 8oz is just a normal bottle, then probably just pour it in the larger compressor suction port. If a 1/4" flare injector bottle, then ment to charge a running system. If your kit has an OEM Harrison A4 compressor, then maybe look for a more modern compressor, as the shaft seal's have really improved over the year's.

i have the round flat pancake type R4, same as an 81 model.
i poured it in the suction port ( all of it). Instruction given to me by the automotive AC supply shop i purchased it at.

The R4 compressor uses 5 oz of oil. My NEW Delco compressor only came with a small amount of oil to lube the assembly and had a big sticker on the compressor warning that it was shipped with no oil.

To be safe you should drain the oil in the new compressor into a cup to measure how much came out. Then add the 5 oz. directly the the compressor. Too much oil is as bad as too little. If you add a little extra oil to the system the excess will accumulate in the bottom of the accumulator/dryer with no harm done as long as it isn't way too much oil.

in the gm shop book it will tell you, a few ounces for condensor, a few for accumulator, a few for evaporator, and few for compressor unless it was shipped with oil in it witch it would state. the oil will add up with replacement of all components
