My corvette has the original Q-Jet carb, it has been restored and the car used to start just fine until about 2 weeks ago. Now if i let the car sit for over 12 hours it is very hard to start. Once the car starts I can shut it off and on no problem, even if I let it sit for 4, 5 hours it will start very quickly. I mentioned the carb because nothing else makes sense, the starter cranks until the battery can no longer turn it, i need to have a battery charger next to the car to start it. Again, once it starts it works like a charm. Any ideas??
It sounds like the Qjet problem with leaking fuel bowls (I think the problem is with the welch plugs(?)). Does it run after cranking it for a while? Do you have a mechanical fuel pump?
It does run after cranking it for a while and once it does the car runs like a charm. I can even let it sit for 5-6 hours and it still cranks on the first turn. BTW I do have a mechanical pump.
I don't think it has anything to do with temperature changes, eventhough we have had some temp changes here in Orlando the problem started before that.
After it has sat for at least 12 hours, or 24 is even better.....remove the top of the air cleaner and look down inside the primary barrels. Move the throttle linkage and see if the accelerator pump is spraying gas. If not, the fuel is leaving the carburetor somehow. It can't be evaporation in that short a time.
If it squirts, the engine should be starting right away. I'm assuming you're giving the accelerator pedal a pump before you try starting the engine.

It could be the leaking fuel bowl problem or a bad accelerator pump if there is no fuel shot, but it could just be no fuel in bowl, causing no pump shot.
