Default Windshield Wiper Bay Closeout

I am thinking about installing a closeout over my windshield wiper bay and I see that there are two, one made of fiberglass and the other plastic.

What is better the fiberglass or the plastic.

Also, do these rivet into place?

Thanks.

I can not beleive that nobody has any input on these closeouts. All of the catalog part companies are carrying them therefore I was thinking that they were popular add on.

Several people on here have them and yes I believe they are riveted in place. The right person just hasn`t saw your post yet.

I've got the urethane/plastic version the fit is pretty good right out of the box. This is not a great picture but you can see most of it. It took paint well and it rivets on in three spots along the cowl. I've only had it on for about 3 weeks, so far so good. I have seen where you can use velcro to hold it on but the cover does flex a little and would probably be popping loose constantly.

I need to get one of these because I am SICK of hearing EVERY freaking time I go to a show and open my hood, "did you know 'they' make a cover that goes right (pointing) HERE???" :mad :reddevil

Funny how I always have a more critical part than that to spend $100 on.

I've had one of these for years...plastic/urethane...most likely got it from MidAmerica....I used velcro just in case I needed to get in there for anything...fits in place great and has never loosened up or rattled or anything...I figure the velcro is easier to remove if needed instead of damaging with rivits...hope this helps!

When someone says that to you, point to your boot and say "Guess where this fits?" Problem solved. :jester

Definately get the fiberglass one!! The plastic ones are thin, and cheapy looking. The fiberglass ones cost more, but are worth it. And as for mounting, you can use rivets, 3m double-sided tape, and perhaps velcro, although I am not sure how the glue the velcro uses to stick on, will do over time with moisture and the heat from the engine bay. :yesnod:

I have the plastic one also. Quality is 8 out of 10 i think and fit isn't perfet either. I didn't paint mine... just left it black. Attached it with 5 black anodized trim screws. here are some older pics... really older :bb

I'm glad you posted this cause I bought a plastic one, and now I'm debating whether to put it on or not. It's good to hear that the velcro will work cause I'm not wanting to put rivet holes in my cowl ledge.

My concern is the wiper blade stops...the like 3" metal rail that sticks out from the center bottom of the windshield to stop the wipers from falling down off the windshield into the wiper bay. I would have to remove them, cause the cover will be acting as a blade stop. How did everyone deal with these stops?

There are a few different types of velcro that could be used as well. I am not sure if there is room to use 2 inch wide velcro, but if there is, it is amazing the strength that it has. There is also another type of velcro called sure lock that is even stonger. We use this on our aircraft, but I am not sure if you can purchase it through a retail outlet or not.

I took the stops out and the blades rest a little on the cover...they haven't left a mark since. Velcro holds just fine. I will email you some pics. Today is going to be a nice sunny day in Mass. so I will email you pics (of course after I take it for a ride) of the cover on and off to show you were I placed the velcro and how much I used...
