wipers stuck ON!
had to pull the fuse just so I wouldn't look so un-cool driving home from date-nite. :o
I did some searching thru the archives and found out that the wiper switch might not be bad, but might just need a thorough cleaning.
So question is...how do I really get to that sucker? How much of the dash needs to be removed?
Any help?

First, I would just let it run for a while and see if it finally turns off. If it does, you probably need to clean up the inside of the wiper motor mechanism. The old grease gets hard and the internal mechanism gets gummed up.

I had to take the entire front bezel out of mine... then just used some 400grit sandpaper the clean the switch contacts... I used a repair manual and followed it step by step for the dash removal.. I recommend the same.. They come in hand for all the little things that come up!

it has a mind of it's own...I've given it plenty of run/trial time, and it stays on most of the time, with some moments of off, and some jittery false starts, etc. but mostly on. I've jiggled/tapped/beat/smacked the switch plenty of times trying to find a pattern.

but if the steps in the books work, then that's probably what I'll have to do.

I pulled my wiper fuse in 1999 and haven't got around to trouble shooting the problem yet.
(My wipers were stuck on and even shutting the engine off and removing the key wouldn't stop them)

Sounds as if "Park" relay in wiper motor is gummed up.(old dried grease)
The wiper motor is easier to check than taking anything else apart ..
A good cleaning and re-application of new lubricant will probably solve your problem.

Don't pull the switch until you check out the motor. The park relay has a set of contacts that are very sensitive. I went through 2 wiper motors with bad contacts to build my current one. Ran great on the bench but won't park when installed.
FYI; the motor is hot at all times. Doesn't need power from the switch to run.

I think the first thing I would do is disconnect all the wires from the motor... All of them! Then do the bench test like I've done in the wiper video. Use the 69-72 video.. the motor test the same.
Put some water on the windshield and do the test so you can eliminate the motor or prove it is the problem. Once this is done (I'm betting the motor is not the issue) then go to the wires inside the car.
For the motor to run, the green or the blue wires at the motor have to be grounded. There has to be a problem between these two wires. The Blue wire runs to the switch and then to the relay, the green wire runs to the relay.
I think if I were you, I'd pull the wiper relay out.. pop off the cover and see if it's burned up. Then post again.
