Can anybody tell me the difference between a standard rotation and a reverse rotation water pump? Yes, I know, one rotates in the standard direction, and the other rotates in the reverse direction, but seriously, what is the difference? Can I take a reverse rotation pump and convert it to a standard by replacing the impeller, maybe? I have an aluminum water pump from a 1987 'vette, but it spins the wrong way for my 1980 'vette, is why I'm asking.
The reverse rotation is used with a serpentine belt which added an extra pulley thus reversing the rotation. I would guess changing the impeller may not work due to the way the water flows through the housing.

I reversed the direction on a similar aluminum pump for my '84 years ago. I just pulled the original impeller off and pressed an older one on. Been working great for the last 20 years.
