cams heads intake
Going to replace cam heads and intake need advice on best combination. have stock 1971 350 270hp. Would like to increase hp to around 330 to 350 hp. motor has 70000 miles. Other option crate motor.

If youve got a 4 spd, Id say, go bananas. If its an auto, youve got a few things to think about, as your cam choice will be dictated by your torque converter.
A few other things to think about...this motor has 70K on the clock. Still young enough to play with, but how much money do you want to put into this, that could otherwise be put into a fresh motor?
You could keep it relatively cheap, and hope to find a set of 305 58cc heads to bump up the compression and choose a longer duration cam to take advantage of your new found compression. Performer RPM intake, 750dp, small tube headers, and look out.
If you want to keep it cheaper, and just put a little spring in your step, Id just throw in one of those High Energy Series cams from Comp, and the above described accessories, and youd probably be just as satisfied.
If you are leaning toward a crate motor, the GM 330 hp is dynamite, but Id probably just have something built the way I want it with a machine shop

I would consider running any aftermarket alum head for the best return.That being said switching to 305 heads does get compression up but with smaller valves and intake/exhaust runners.Not the best for performance.
If your motor passes a compression/leakdown test then go for it.If not buy a crate motor and keep your original intact.Save all original parts no matter what you do.
The budget way to go would be to buy a set of vortec heads,intake,650-750(vacuum secondary holley)and a cam with duration in the mid 220's for a nice gain.
Or a set of edelbrock rpm or AFR heads,dual plane intake that will fit under your hood,and a 750 holley vacuum secondary carb with something like a comp xe 268 or xe274(manual trans or stall converter)and boil the back tires off.
Coverting to HEI(or some kind of electronic) and recurving the dist will help what you have and is mandatory for the upgrades listed.

i just went with patriot 185cc (795.00) for the pair and in my opinion the best heads out there for the money, crosswind intake, 750cfm 4150 street carb, dual electric fans, and WOW does this thing make power now. oh almost forgot the cam haha.. comp cam xtreme energy 274 and 3500 stall converter
