This month's Popular Hot Rodding published the results of Amsoil's Muscle Car Engine shoot out. No surprise, but first place was taken my a 417ci third gen Hemi. But, surprise, surprise, second place was taken by a 403ci Gen I Chevy small block. Third was a Ford small block, fourth was, surprise, surprise, a 403ci Chevy Big Block. The GM LS placed fifth with a 426ci Fast fuel injected motor. Almost all of the Gen I small blocks ran Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intakes. The second place Chevy small block ran a mild 235/241 at .050 cam, but with 1.9 and 1.8 ratio rockers.
Some really good reading. It's the Feb. issue of Pop Hot Rodding.

Good stuff !
Like the guy who owns the shop that does mainly C5-C6 LS motors said when he looked at my chassis dyno numbers " Looks like the Gen 1 small block is alive and well "
A large engine builder in my area is a huge Chevy guy and has a killer 69 Camaro. He hates the LS platform and does not like their longevity for performance applications. I know, flame suit on, they are in all the new Vettes etc. He just sees a lot of issues, especially with guys that race them. I am sticking with the old tried and true cast iron stuff for the block.
