Well see initially when we tore it down, it had rust underneath the metal straps that hold it down. This rust stuck to the tank and we thought it was all crusty, well i was under there cleaning today and it's WHITE!!! you can flick the rust off to reveal a white smooth surface.. exactly the same as the under part of the battery compartment. I'm really  Is this a good thing or a bad thing?

Can't you feel 'em schoolin' around
You got fins to the left, fins to the right
And you're the only bait in town
Back on topic, my '84 Blazer has the same texture I think you're talking about. It looks like mould imperfections, like a boat would have, I don't know why it does it, the only thing I can think of, is possibly a spray on rust inhibitor. Kind of like the "Rhino Liner" they put in the back of truck beds.
Wow... and I thought it didn't take much to be a nineteen year old with self restraint. I guess I relinquish all my testosterone behind the wheel. (How do I manage that with this damn LM-1? Ah well....)

Well I'm happily married so I won't gush over Jenny but I must say it is nice to see a girl who will crawl under the back end of a vette to work on the gas tank.
