I have a 1972 coupe and the drivers side window binds with the upper door seal when the window is rolled up. Also binds when you shut the door. After some inspection the door sticker states that the door is off of another vette (10/80). The door itself seems to match up perfectly so does anyone know if the glass was changed over the years. According to a glass installer the glass for a 1972 will fit from 1968 -1974 and then theres a slight change in the thickness for 1975-1982.
The 'glass' shouldn't matter - I think there's an adjustment inside the door.
My glass is from a '72 and doesn't bind but doesn't match up right, either.....
Then again, I do have a convert. (prone to leaking).
It's been a while, but let me see if I can remember the adjustments.
There are 4 adjustments you can make:
1. In-Out Tilt at the top. (Like Camber in wheel alignment.)
2. Forward-backward tilt. (Like Caster in wheel alignment.)
3. For-aft movement.
4. Upper and lower travel stops.
You really need a service manual or an AIM to adjust it, because I'm not sure I can describe which bolts do what. Or, you could take it to a body shop and they could probably do it (for a "nominal" fee).
Forget that, what is that book and where do I get a copy??? Thanks, Steve
Looks like a Helms Shop Manual, but it may be another one like Chilton's, since they copied some of the pics. I bought my Helms manual set from my local GM dealer for $66.00. Helms also has a website where you can order direct, but I don't have the address. They are year specific, not model specific. They are the shop manuals that GM issued for the dealers to use. You need this manual and an Assembly Instruction Manual, if you're going to do much work on your car.
The 73 AIM has the adjustment procedure, with pictures. Pages 184-190 Section F01-12. The adjustment for in-out tilt is opposite what you think - slide them in to tilt the window out. It took me a few tries, but I almost have it right now. One more time shoud do it. Joe
