I have not owned a hot rod for about 15 years, nor I have kept up the hot rodding community. Well I recently purchased a 1982 vette in need of TLC. I was thinking of replacing the 350 with a 383 which seems to be a popular swap. I was thinking something in the 500hp 450 ft/lbs area.
Now my question is what production cars will a C3 corvette be competitive with, when red light racing, with those horse power/torque numbers.
Will a new Camaro be faster or slower, how about a Mustang?

Anyway, I was simply wanting to get an idea of where a 82 with 500 hp would fit in the go fast world related to production cars. So for the purpose of future discussion lets assume drag strip, closed course comparisons.
How about against the dodge truck that comes with a V10 from the viper production line?

If you make an honest 500hp and 450tq there are not many stock street driven cars that will be able to beat you at the drag strip, but there are a few that will hand you your azz in a bucket

This is very true and if he only has a stock car with that motor there will be alot of cars handing his azz back to him laughing, takes more than just motor! as many here know.
I laugh at 'em.......they'll beat me....but they're still glorified lawn mowers !
The lawn mower engines built by Offenhauser won 27 Indy 500 races. They were pretty funny, except to the guys who tried to beat them with small block Chevys.
