Audio Question
So my corvettes sound system is the old stock one and its starting to sound like **** lol. So i wanna replace the speakers with better quality ones and add a removable sub woofer to the trunk space in back. Is it hard to get to the in dash speakers? Do you think it would be easier and cheaper for a trained electronics guy to do it? What are some really nice quality speakers and sub woofers?

if you find a trained electronics guy, if he knows any better he'd probably turn down the job. best bet is to find someone whose familar with these cars. and while your in there, you may want to fix anything else that needs replacing.

He doesn't want to risk the $400 mistake: cracking the upper dash pad. I was lucky and did not.
Before buying new speakers you may wish to check the impedance on the old. My 1974 was 10 ohm and not compatible with new head units. Similarly the modern 4-8 ohm with the original head unit.

replaced my old speakers with new ones but had to replace the old dash pad due to cracks. when i got into the dash found out someone else had been there before me. they had broken the speakers supports and had just used bread ties to hook the speakers back up. you might have to replace more then just the speakers. i had to buy new speakers supports which are hard to find. good luck

I gave up on the dash speakers for that very reason. I have gone through 3 sets of front and 3 sets of rear speakers since owning the car. Mine are now in the kick panels, 4x6, very easy to get to and on the rear deck 6x9. Small Sony 4channel amp and Kenwood head unit. Very basic system but miles ahead of stock and all I need. May add small sub and sub amp in future. The Kenwood's bass boost is pretty good. For head unit cut out non GM bezel, kept original. mike...

IMO I wouldnt mess with the dash speakers.,..you will get a better sound with speakers from the kicks...I used an alpine head unit with an ipod connector that i have stashed in one of the rear compartments.. i have a 600 watt kenwood amp attached to the rear wall of the back deck... I have a 10in mb qaurtz sub in a nice small custom made box that if i want to take my tops off they will still fit..... sounds great.. around 1000 bucks well spent.

There are a number of ways of doing this. I used 4 x 6" Pioneers in the upper dash and Polk 6 1/2" speakers in the kick panels. The head unit is a KHE-300 (50W x 4).
For a little ooomph in back I added a self-powered Blaupunkt 8" subwoofer (connected directly to the battery). I don't have t-tops in that it is a convertible but it could be installed vertically on the rear bulkhead if need be.

To help with the space issue, I installed an Infinti Bass Link 10"" amp. While it will not rattle the windows in the next door neighbors house, It does have a nice Bass tone and does save space.

went with 6.5 infinity in the kicks. and alpine deck.. purchased an aftermarket bezel and cut it up.. saved my org bezel..
other side of kicks.
