Default 71 a/c conversion

I am looking into converting the a/c compressor charge from the original freon which is still working in the car to the new refrigerant.
Other than the normal installation iinstructions associated with the change, has anyone had issues with the new refrigerant change. IE: overheating?
Car is 350 stock engine with automatic trans
Any thoughts are appreciated

If your AC is working and cooling, DO NOT CONVERT. R12 refrigerant for recharging is available and will give you the best performance with the original system.

Converting to R134a in your system will decrease cooling.

Default 134a

Rotonda,

Thanks for info. A/C compressor is slinging oil in operation from front seal on hood so I need to replace. I was told r-12 is pretty pricey so looking at going 134a with rebuit compressor. I will check local shops for r-12 charge pricing to be sure

Thanks
Steve

If you do decide to go with 134a, you will need a new drier and replace current hoses with barrier hoses. You may also want to look at a new condensor ( a modern multi-path to allow the 134a to lose the heat it has picked up better than stock) and a new compresser (probably a Sanden 508 or equivlent for less load on the engine and more room in your engine compartment. Sanden's are sold for both 134a and R12).

Hope this helps with your decision.
