Default Head Replacement Question...

I’m getting ready to replace my heads…

I assume I need to drain the antifreeze. Can I just pull the plug on the radiator? Or, do I need to take out a plug on the block?

Remove the plugs in the side of the block if you don't want antifreez in your oil pan

When you're finished, change your oil and filter.

Draining the radiator won't get the antifreeze level low enough in the block. But you don't have to pull a plug out of the side of the block. Once you have the exhaust manifold removed, remove one of the head mounting bolts...one of the short ones along the bottom of the head. More antifreeze will drain out, have your pan ready. Once that stops draining, use a shop vac to suck some more water out of the block.
