Default Twin Electric fans - Cheap

Hi

Has anyone tried this twin setup from ebay.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...K%3AMEWAX%3AIT

It looks very similar to the SPAL model available from DeWitts or Speed direct but possibly has different fan motors.

Seems very cheap at $125 !!!

Does the power draw of 25 amps at start "each" (15 running) sound high compared to the SPAL's

Looks like a good buy to me. The size is the same as the dual fans that DeWitt's sells for double the price.

Not every fan is equal. Power draw is low compared to the Spals. Dual Spals pull a lot of current and a lot of air. Mine are fused at 30 amps each. I would not expect these to pull anywhere near the flow of the Spals.

Here is good depiction:

I bought those exact fans a few years ago. They work great and have no problem keeping my car cool sitting in summer beach traffic. They do pull alot of amps though, so make sure whatever controller setup you use can handle it. I tried a derale controller and burnt it up (literally ). I made myself a custom controller with 2 40 amp hella relays, some inline fuses, a 195* temperature switch, and some 10gauge wire. Works great and was much cheaper than most other controllers you can buy that will handle 40amp+ fans

If I were to do it again though, I would have used the ford focus dual fans. You can probably get them for cheaper, and they are OEM quality. I havent had any problems with mine, I just like using OEM parts over aftermarket if I can. Riggs74 made a post with some pictures of his focus fan setup.

I have actual Dual Spals hooked to my alt out stud directly...and they have a small fuse link in there, also acts as a surge limiter....it's maybe 14 ga wire at thickest.....about 4" long at most....then to 8 ga wire to BOTH fans.....they start/run both at once...no issues...

been there for some 5? years now...maybe more....

I put these on my 76.................... AWESOME cooling power !! I think they have them listed with a lesser draw .......... they pull a lot of amps ! When I had them hooked together, the volt meter showed a little over 10 volts when running ......... I now split them to separate circuits and have no problem ! Most of his stuff is made in China....................... but seems to be very good quality !

These are the ones I intend to buy.
Set one at 190 and the other one at 220.
At least that's the plan until I get a better idea.
If fan 1 fails number two will take over at 220.

Anyone using these on a big block? Just curious how they'd work?

Purchased one today so will feedback how it goes.

A friend of mine is going to build me a controller that uses the standard temperature sender signal (resistance) to set a start and stop temperature for each one (adjustable) - as well as provide override control, fan on indicators etc.

Background: I have a 76 vette and have a aluminum radiator with two fans on the way..I want to purchase a fan install kit that will monitor the engine temp. My question is where do I put the thermostat, since the vette is already using one to monitor engine temp and sending it to the gage panel. Is their another place on a small block 350 (L-48) for the 3/8" brass probe that will accurately read engine temp? All help appreciated......

Regards,
Ron

You can buy a thermostat housing for a 79 that has a tapped hole that your sensor should screw into fine. The housings usually cost less than $10.00 at the local chain parts store.
