Default Ball joints

I did a search and did not find what I was looking for so here goes...

I am replacing my ball joints and need a tip or two. As I press the new ball joint into its home the rubber protective bushing mashes out preventing me from getting the new seated all the way down on the arm. I tried to grease the rubber a bit to get it slid into position, but it wont seat. Do I let it ride between the a-arm and ball joing "plate" and just tighten the heck out of it and mash it down? And how many pounds of torque does it take on a torque wrench to get it tight enough?? Thanks, Hitch.

Remove the rubber boot and reinstall after you install the ball joint. You don't want rubber between the mounting area of the a-arm and the mounting plate of the ball joint. It could later come out and you would have a loose ball joint. The boot is held on by a groove in the ball joint and can be removed and reinstalled.

Hi Rubber goes under the arm on the upper arm. When you tight the nut down the it will push the gasket into place
