I would like to upgrade my stock carb/intake setup without changing the stock hood on my 73. I'm thinking a Holley carb with an Edelbrock airgap manifold. Has anybody tried this setup?
Thanks

It would help to know which hood you have and what air cleaner/base you want to run; and if you are using a standard block height deck.

I have an Edelbrock RPM AirGap intake (75624) with a Holly 4150 bodied carb with a 2" K&N Extreme air cleaner on a drop base, on a std deck height block; and I have ~1/2" of clearance to the top of the L-88 hood on my '70.

Standard hood with a stock block. I really don't want to change the hood since it has recent paint. As for the air cleaner, I'm open to anything that will fit under the hood.

With that carb and intake and a stock, small block hood you are sure to have clearance issues.

The Edelbrock Performer Air Gap (2601) will not fit under your stock 1973 hood.

The Edelbrock Perfomer ( 2101 or 3701) will fit. Weiand also has a low rise aluminum dual plane manifold that will work for you. These manifolds will accept your Q Jet or a Holley spread bore 4165/4175 without causing any 1973 hood clearance problems.

Same topic, different car. I have a 74 with stock hood and want to replace the intake with an Edelbrock Performer Intake 27014 and Edelbrock 1406 Carb. I've measured the height from the top of the carb to the theromostat housing on both the original and the replacements, and there is approximately 3/8" difference, the Edelbrock stuff is higher.

If you search this & other vette forums it can be done with ether a drop base filter or specter dual inlet low rise cold air intake. All this being done with the rpm air gap. But with either configuration you could possible be choking the air flow alittle.

It will not work with the small block hood even with a drop base on the air cleaner. L-88 hood yes. Intake, carb, & air cleaner in my earlier post.

A buddy of mine has a 71 with the stock small block hood.
He runs a Chinese knock off of the RPM Air Gap & a Holley Street HP 750.
The air cleaner base is a deep drop & the filter is only a 14 x 2", but it fits.
