No you do not need to remove the trany, I installed a hurst shifter in my 80. You will need to get the car up enough to work under it. The Hurst shifter is much better than the stock shifter, you will love it.
If you've owned your vette for more than a week, you realize that an extra $80 is just a drop in the bucket (or the ocean). We should run a poll on fixer-uppers. I'll bet that most guys end up spending more to fix up their car than they spent to buy the "bargain".!!
Do I need to remove the transmission to install this kit, instructions says no, but anyone with experience in it?.
Regards,
If your adding this into the car in your avatar (69?) you might find as I did needing to cut about a 1/2 inch off the 1st - 2nd linkage rod. It would'nt go ito 1st gear because of hitting something (can't remember exactly what the rod was hitting) just a heads up incase you have the same isssue. you'll love it.

I replaced my old hurst setup with a new one a couple years ago, and no you dont have to remove the trans. I do recall that it was a tight area to work in, but if I can do it so can you
CAn you adjust the shifter on a 76 BW to remove too much excess "play"? It shifts fine, just seems the "throw" goes a little too far in the console.
