I replaced all my center console gauges with digital ones. I cut out the sending wires I needed from the plug, like fuel, water, oil. Everything was going fine. I took the wire that was for the dash/dimmer lights out of the plug and hooked it to the purple wires. Now I have no dash lights!! The wire has power when headlight switch is pulled, but it does not power the center gauges and now I have no dash lights for the speedo and tach. Are they somehow connected to one another? I know when I turn on the headlights, the light does come on for the shift indicator, so I know it works. I just need dash lights for my speedo. Any help, please?? Also, on the center console plug, I know the brown wire is fuel gauge sender, what is the tan wire for?? This is on a 79. Thanks
the wiring diagram on my 69 says tan is for the gas tank sending unit.
My guess is you lost your grounding wire somewhere along the way.
these lights wont light up without being grounded. The tach and speedo have their own grounds and the center cluster uses it's own. they all so to some spot over by the kick panel.
I tried the tan wire, which is what I was told was the fuel wire, but it did nothing. I tried the brown wire next to the tan wire and it showed the level in the fuel tank. No idea what the tan wire is for. I will check some ground wires. I have also checked fuses and all is good. Thanks
