I have the whole exhaust dropped and was thinking to myself what to do with the poor thing. It's missing a bracket and the ones that are still on are pretty beat up. My question is, If i get some headers, do they make a piece that i can attach to it, just to route the exhaust gas away from the transmission... is this called a testpipe? I'd like them to exit behind the front tires somewhere until i get a full system manufactured. I know it's not legal, and i really don't care. Thanks for the help! :seeya
I was looking for same thing after I got my headers, but from my research I couldn't find one that was made - I would have to get it custom made at exhaust shop. So I just drove with open headers to exhaust shop and had them do up my finalized dual exhaust.
good luck

Ill try to stay on topic this time..... Yes you can do that. Go to hardware store and get some of that flexible tubing then you can clamp it on somehow to your headers ( be creative). I've done this many times..... itll be loud :D
Do the pipes exit all the way to the side ?? If not, with it under the car like that I think you might get alot of exhaust in the cabin ( bad if your drivin alot).
they are angled outward so it should redirect some of the exhaust out the side. Just a thought. I can't squeeze the fabrication of true duals into my budget right now. I have to live too u know. I should just put the old exhaust back on and be happy with it.

Jenny,
I thinks thats a good idea. Those pipes look good but probably won't fit properly. I am sure they will hit on something..
Another thing is for true duals i'd have to get a new transmission crossmember.. so that's another $150 and quickly everything adds up. Something like this would be an awesome cheap solution :) not to mention LOUD :D
Mid America sells a true dual setup for the 80-81 in aluminized steel for 229.99 and 409 stainless for 299.99 These are for bolting straight to your present stock exhaust manifolds without cats of course and would have to be altered to fit your headers. Probably smarter to just have the exhaust fabed when you get the headers installed. Thats what my plans are on my 81. Just thought I would pass on the info. This is out of the catalog. They're website sucks for c3 stuff. You can go to the website to order you catalog though.
Thanks, i think i've decided on a combo for someday i.e. like a year from now. 3" duals into a pair of XR1 mufflers, no cats. I'd like to go stainless so it won't rust. Aluminized isn't really that good. I have friends who have aluminized exhausts that started rusting in like a month. As for the diameter I know I know 3" is big, but i like it that way ;).

Aluminized does suck. I've got it on mine from a previous owner and its rusting not to mention being routed wrong such as under the crossmember. What was bubba doing?
