I had the same question!
The facts: cost of $800 and the loss of 1 inch of clearance underneath(Vette Brakes and Products) VS $80 new coil springs
Weight savings about 80 lbs
I really like the monoleaf conversion I have on my '80. I like adjustability in both height and ride, and it's light too. As for losing an inch of clearance, if my monoleaf hits something, I'm in big trouble because about 5 other things are going to hit too, including my valance, oil pan, exhaust, etc. The monospring is between the wheels, so it would only something that goes between the wheels.
the mono leaf on mine is not the lowest point. I have never hit the spring or anything else under the car. I like the adjustability of the system. The ride is fine with it. I also have the upper and lower control arms that go with the system.
I used h/d performance offset upper control arms...and the transverse composit monospring systems....As far as ground clearance....no hits yet, and do not expect to encounter any concerns....of course the '77 stays on alot of the better pavement...
I have the monospring on the front and back....it is like the car was really intented to have this set-up... on the 'Vette from the get-go! Great Investment in Handling...and also seemed to reduce noise and viberations....
The only disavantage of the set-up.... is the aluminum blocks that hold the spring in position...the mounting bolts have to work harden the threads in the blocks....So those bolts will loosen and can fall out... (like new alloy wheels and lug-nuts do at first)...
But just replace them and go!....I replaced all of the mounting bolts with a Stainless Steel
Allen Head and lock washer...and they have not become loose again....everytime that I do a walk around inspection or maintance... they get checked....
You will get your Moneys Worth and Then some....they install very easy with a little forthought..and basic mechanic tools...Enjoy The Ride....Farm to Market Road,....Ranch Roads,....Interstate Higways....even the City Street....After looking at the map for your location....Yes, your are gonna love it..."See The U S A ....In Your Chevrolet...America Is Asking You To Call."
I guess I was asking more about does it lower the whole car, rather than how low is it compared to anything else underneath, or does the adjustability allow a stock height?

80 lbs?!! Really? Can someone verify this? If not 80lbs, how much does the front mono spring save over stock coils? Maybe the 80lbs includes converting to lightweight a arms.
