it's finally getting nice here in wisconsin so I pulled the vette out from winter storage and changed the oil and filter. What other preventive maintainance procedures should I annually do for my 78 with so few miles on it? I bought it last year with 600 orig. miles on it. thanks for any imput
If it's made of rubber, replace it! :smash: Let me start a list here: belts, hoses, front end components, fuel lines, brake calipers, tires. And the list goes on and on!
I forgot to mention that the vette was bought from dealer who originally owned it. car was always kept in showroom never saw a raindrop. Do You still suggest I change all the rubber components?
stored or not - rubber componants will deteriorate over time - does the car have the original tires? original oil? original power steering fluid etc..etc..
If the car was not frequently started and moved then all your belts have taken on a shape - your tires would be severly and probably permanently flatspotted (assumes the car was not stored on stands - if it was hope that the stands were placed such that the car was stored with the suspension at ride height i.e. not hanging at full droop)
all fluids were changed tires are original, car was on stands for the winter. I see no visual cracks in the tires are they still okay to use?
The tires are still subject to dry-rot over time. What are your plans for the car? If you want to keep it in NCRS condition and show it. My suggestion would be to take off the original wheels & tires and use them ONLY for showing. Put on a good set of the same rims with new tires for driving. 24 years is not friendly to tires :nonod:
If the car hasn't been driven in a long while and if the belts & hoses are original, by all means, replace them all. Radiator hoses & belts are the bog ones. Vacuum hoses will probably be ok until they show signs of cracking.
