Default Refill hand grease gun

OK so this is my first 'REALLY FEEL STOOOPID NOW' post in a long time. Back when I rebuilt my suspension in 2005, I ran into a Mac toolman at the local watering hole & made a tour of his truck. I picked up a coupla things I needed; one of them being a hand grease gun. It was already filled at purchase and I used it up over the years.

Now I have a tube of Valvoline hi-temp suspension grease...looks like cartridge type to me. So I peel the caps off both ends of it and prepare to put it into my grease gun. DH it does not go in. There's no cartridge in the gun to remove. So how are you supposed to fill this thing? Hand-scoop the poop into the gun, from the new cartridge?

I feel like a dummy but all the time I worked in shops, of course, the grease gun was a pressurized line that hung from the ceiling. Guess I never used a manual grease gun much - and certainly didn't fill one it looks like!

If you see that guy again, give the gun back. I hate those type of guns. I am sure he overpriced it also. I have an air powered grease gun which I really like. Good luck Al

Try turning the cartridge around, as simple as it sounds it worked for me. Even though I thought it was a scoop in gun.

Hope that helps,

Frank

Just slip the cartridge in with the front end open and the back/closed end next to the plunger.

This gun is 40-years-old and still works.

If cartrige wont fit in gun either way, take top off gun, Butt it up to cartridge then draw the plunger back. effectively sucking the grease from the cartrige into the gun.

Or you can try siphoning

lube shop would be able to refill it for you

Yep -- its putty knife time! As you put the grease in, just make sure there is a small spot for air to get out (in the grease so you can see the bottom) or else you won't be able to fill the gun up all the way. Gently tap the grease gun to get the grease to go to the bottom.

WORDS OF ADVICE FROM EXPERIENCE: Use visegrips on the end of the springloaded center piece when putting in grease! On more than one occasion while in the Air Force i saw what was described as a "Grease-a-pult"!!

Buy grease in a tub, take a big spoon, and take a big mouthful of grease. Let it sit in your mouth long enough to melt, then spit it into the gun. Repeat until gun is full.

"Grease-a-pult"!! Now that's funny.

Well it wasn't all that funny when I did it. But it didn't dawn on me that I had a "Grease-a-pult" then either.
