Default Hooker Headers?

Hey guys... is Hooker Headers worth the extra money? A shop here has a set that retails for $799 but will sell them to me for $500... Said he'd put the headers on and run all new exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers

Which part number? Comp or supercomp. Are they coated? Does price include installation? Presumably mufflers and exhaust are extra. can't even guess without answers to all of those questions.

Supercomp/ coated and installed, I picked out a sit of heads from Summit, new cam, new alum intake, carb, his headers, new exhaust with the Magnaflow mufflers for $2975 or build it from bottom up with all this stuff for $4800, Motor has 80k mile on it

I'm not a fan of hooker headers. I bought a set from Summit and they were specifically made for Corvettes and I got one side on and the other side wouldn't fit. I've heard hedman is preferrable. It seems Hooker headers have lost their qualty over the years.

I have Hooker Supercomps om mine, coated, and took 4 sets to get right. Still had to man-handle one into place. Summit was good about letting me return them.BTW, made for a Vette too. BTW, mine are not sidepipes.

I have hooker sidepipes on my car. I'm not a fan of sidepipes on c3 streetcars, don't like the looks, but my car had it when I bought it. Looks aside, my pipes leak (welds are cracked where they go 4 into 1), the tabs that are welded on the long tubes will break off it they are mounted rigidly to the frame (mine were, I've put rubber grommets in to try to fix this problem), they may require you to cut the steel/chrome trim on the bottom of the car for clearance, and maybe it's just my car but I smell like exhaust after I drive it. As far as performance, from what I have read you can probably do better with under car exhaust, decent headers, an x or H pipe and good mufflers than what you can with sidepipes unless you run them open and are looking for high rpm performance. Still, I know some people love the way they look and $500 seems pretty fair if they are new or in good shape, that's what I have seen used sets listed for on here from time to time. I think the chrome super comps like I have retail for something like 1200 or 1600.

I misread, you said hooker headers and I assumed you meant sidepipes, sorry. Don't know if what I wrote helps or not, $500 seems like a good deal to me for a new headers + mufflers and pipes installed.

I have Hooker comp headers on my 77 and they went right in without any problems. I cut the flanges in between the tubes so I didn't have to remove the dip stick and oil pressure sending unit.

Are they that much better or are you just paying for a name brand?

I think I would consider the custom stainless ones offered here on the forum before Hookers.

I run Hedman Elite headers on my '74 vette L-82 with sidepipes. They run out to the side for this purpose and the quality of the headers is second to none, the nicest headers I've ever seen/used.

There is a link in my post. They are stainless and seem to be of very good quality. There are a few threads on these and side pipe headers started by the manufacturer. Search for threads started by CUSTOM IMAGE.
I currently have stainless headers(although not by this manfacturer) and would never use anything but stainless if they ever need replacing. JMO!
Good Luck!

Are you looking for quality or cheap headers? Hooker quality has been on the toilet for a while. Cheap and decent headers are Summit house brand, nice headers are Headman Elites, very nice are the custom stainless ones

These hookers are nice, i spoke to summit today, they've got headers starting about $189 for cheap house headers and nice headers for $899 and those were hookers
