Default Cragars vs New?

Iv'e decided to put new tires on my 75. Going with Firehawk P255/R6015. I like the looks of the Cragar SS, but noticed that there is a new version out that not only resembles them but looks as nice or nicer. Does anybody have these on a C-3 and who makes them? Also with the 255 tire what width should I go with? Or should I stay with the Cragars?

There's a number of wheel companies who make wheels similar to the Cragar S/S, plus Cragar themselves.

You can try this website <http://www.autowaretech9.net/nextwheels/jegs_ec.htm>...you can bring up your car and color and try any of the wheels available to see how they look. It's a pretty neat thing to do.

Take this with a grain of salt and things may very well have changed over the years, but back in the day I used to sell tires and sport wheels, and I was never impressed with the quality control shown on Cragar S/S wheels. We sold lots of them but chrome peeling and rust was not at all uncommon on them compared to other wheels available. This may well have changed by now...there are far more wheel makers now and is much more competitive for your dollars. Manufacturing techniques have gotten better as well. My observation is of the 1970's and '80s, so hopefully things have changed for the better.

Despite the peeling and rust, at the end of the day..........NOTHING beats a vintage Cragar on a C3!

If you are going to change your wheels, You may want to consider going to 17" or 18" sizes. Better handling and a much better selection of tires.

Any clearance issues with 17 or 18's.

With the tire size you mentioned, you're wanting at least an 8" rim width. Had 255/60/15's on a car with 7" wide rim's, and rolled in to much. Later went with 8.5" wide rim's and much better. I agree, if going a whole new package, maybe consider a few sizes up to 16 or 17's. Check out the Tire Rack site, as they can show how different tire/wheel packages look on your car.
