My engine hoist doesn't clear my pipes for my impending body lift.
I have unbolted the exhaust at the headers but they're too rusty to separate where they need to. I've tried heat and a large hammer...no luck. there is no other point in the piping that isn't welded...
I'll be getting a mig welder soon...not sure what they use on mufflers/exhaust pipes but if I cut it can I just weld it back together with the mig? if so where would be a smart place to cut it?
I'll eventually want a new exhaust but I don't want to ruin the one i have in case i want/need to use it for a while longer.
What I would do is cut the pipes in an area easy to get to where the pipes are straight. That way you could place a collar of the next size pipe over the splice and weld it over the cut. Most DIY exhaust systems have a joint at the crossmember hanger and at the striaght run between the diff. and the muffler. The crossmember area is too tight to get to with a welder. So, maybe behind the crossmember. Remove that pipe out the front. The rest should be able to be removed. Good luck with it. mike...
With the system disconnected at the headers and everything hanging with the car jacked up i think there is plenty of room to weld it back together later and add some kind of coupler.
