I have a 74 L82 Coupe-owned since new. Removed from storage ( 31 years ). Transmission when put into reverse ' slams ' into gear. Forward is OK. Any thoughts as to problem. Thanks for your time.
wow 31 years in storage!, automatic i presume, change the fluid and filter to begin with.
I agree and in fact would suggest taking it to a dealer than can do one of those power flushes. Its an active flush that pushes new fluid throughout the auto chambers rather than a passive flush where you just drain the pan. Yeah, assuming its an automatic. But if its sat that long, I would flush all fluids and change before serious driving. Especially check those break caliprs for leaks. Sounds like it should be in great shape tho.

How many miles?
Thanks for the reply. 16550 miles ( wifes car ). In the process of fluids/brakes/carburator ect. Power flush vs. gravity is interesting - will pursue checking on.
If it was me, I would try running some Seafoam transmission flush in the car for about 1/2 hour before the actual transmission change-Change the trans fluid, filter and drain the torque converter. I would then run seafoam again in the fresh fluid for about 100 miles and change all the fluid and filter again and you should be good to go. Just my 2 cents!
I have seen and heard of this happening before, a fluid and filter change like the rest said should fix it up! Once the fluid is changed take a long drive with it if the car is drivable. It should be good then.
