Default 82CE Engine Sensor Question

I'm confused and would appreciate your help. There seems to be 3 engine sensors that seem to be related to temperature. Could someone explain what each one does? One is in the driver side head between cylinders 1 & 3. The second is on the passenger head between cylinders 6 & 8. The third on on the front of the intake manifold.

Now here is the kicker. I've owned this car a long time (26k original miles) and never had a problem. Now while doing some regular maintenance I noticed that the sensor on the passenger head (between cylinders 6 & 8) isn't connected correctly. The connector is offset so that only one wire is connected. What isn't working (I'm guessing the aux fan) and why didn't something (e.g. ecm) detect it?

Thanks

You have one of them right. Otherside is for your temp gauge. One in front of the thermostat is know as the CTS...Coolant Temp Sensor....this one communicates with the ECM...tells it the engine is cold to create the actions of a choke.

There is also a knock sensor on the passenger side.

the aux fan switch is behind the passenger head pointing at the fire wall.
